Dialing a horse's dose
The plunger ring is the whole instrument: set it to the horse's weight, and the syringe will only deliver that much. Slide the nozzle in at the toothless corner of the mouth, aim back over the tongue, push once, and hold the head level a few seconds so the mouthful goes down rather than onto your boots.
An empty mouth first — a horse mid-hay will pocket the paste in the wad and spit both with feeling. Ponies, yearlings and lean stock take partial doses off the same dial, which is why one tube serves a mixed pair so well.
Where one tube fits the calendar
This is the rotation-day workhorse: spring and fall wormings, new arrivals into the barn, and the targeted dosing that follows a fecal egg count. Modern barns worm to the count rather than the calendar alone — the syringe doesn't mind either schedule, but your veterinarian should be setting it.
A part-used tube keeps for the next round capped at room temperature, as long as the paste still presses out smooth. The tack trunk that freezes in January and bakes in July is the one place it shouldn't live.
